The Third pie

By whatever term you refer - Gender identity disorder or Third gender or Transgender or Transman or Transwoman or Transsexualism or the term which i would prefer sexually challenged, they form a chunk of Human rights violation either voluntarily or involuntarily.

The term "Hijida" supposdly a derivative from devnagari, refers to the third gender or Eunuch by which the world is familar with.

Those persons who are travelling in Mumbai-Chennai train route are familair with eunichs. (ofcourse this route is also noticed for sedative biscuit bandit gang).

Its not my kind heartedness nor any kind of symphathy which made me to write this article, for which I am sorry. Asusual i also used to make mockery of them, especially the way in which they are portrayed in Cinema (like "9" etc.). But as part of the society we need them to engage in any activity to avoid social imbalances or inother words to have better balanced society.

I tried to trace the schemes by our Governments for the welfare of eunichs, but couldn't find any. Its still a mystery that how they are managing life;If only by begging or harassing others? then its horrible. Recently Hariyana Government came out with a proposal of Rs.300 as a allowance or dole for eunichs. Its a welcome step, as it would leads to their registration or some sort of arrangment which would facilate their official count. MP government had already proposed for appointing them as tax collectors. In mumbai we can take a breath as they have politically advanced to contest in local elections and have managed to won.

With respect to TN, where every year the famous "Koothandavar festival" helds, there is no official backing for eunichs from government. Some 6 months before government conducted gender transmission operations at CMC, Vellore with the irony being its still not legal in India. Sometime before our state food minster announced that these people will get ration card, but nobody cares to make a backtrack of what happened, as still government is breaking its head on the elimination of duplicate ration cards.
I would suggest that there may some kind of self help groups to make them economically valuable, and also to impart some sort of self-interest in them. But its not as easy as we write here. It need a complete make shift, I could no where find the term "eunich" nor any information of these people, in NCERT textbooks till 10th, and I am ready to throw open a challenge that 50% of people are encountering this term for the first time, here. We should make school students to realise the third gender. It comes under the purview of sex education. Still gay marriages & lesbian relations are not so acceptable in Indian society. We shall not enter into that topic now.

Films should stop portraying them in bad taste. Its should be considered as social responisbilty. I wonder what sort of medical facilty they have?.

There are lot of problems in society which are better when unnoticed, but at the end of a day they have to be addressed for still better society!
Lets keep our fingers crossed and follow

This is the article which i wrote some 4 months before, and left without publishing due to several factors.

Supposdly now came some relief mesures for them.
TN govt has setup a new board for eunichs and their welfare. The process of distribution of ration cards for them has also been speed up and above all from the next academic year all college will have new applicaion forms with the sex column getting a new divison as "Transgender".

Supposed to be aired earlier, star Vijay is also speeding up for the telecast of "Rose mariyagiya nan" , a first of its kind program, in which a transgenderd person would speak on their travails.

There are lot of problems in society which are better when unnoticed, but at the end of a day they have to be addressed for still better society!
Lets keep our fingers crossed and follow .
