Lord Hayagriva....!

Today (5-9-6) I went to Sri Hayagrivaswami temple in a village called chettipunniyam near chengalpet. It as an ancient temple situated in the remote village nearly 2 km from the national highway. This temple is considered to be the best for having good education, knowledge and grasping capacities since Lord Hayagreeva(Horse faced god) is responsible for all these things.( The history goes back that he fought back the Vedas from the rakshahas when the latter hide them under the seas…!).

The reasons for my visit were, Since I am an regular reader of Kumudam Jothidam I wish to visit this temple a long back since its author has mentioned the significance of the temple and also refering it very often.Next one is that day(Avani Thiruvonam) is the jayanthi(birth) festival of Sri Hayagreevar and the final one is to seek his blessings in my future ventures.

Regarding the temple it is small but neatly maintained. It has a rare kind of tree which is mentioned by saint Andal in her Nacchiyar thirumozhi.Another siginificance is that the idol of the lord was worshipped by the saint Sri Vedanta desika by himself.

One more thing I like is that one among the golden schemes of Ms. Jayalalitha “Annadhana scheme” is being implemented here.!!!!!

My Home town

This post is dedicated to the presiding deity of my home town Tiruvallur Sri Veeraragava perumal .
Its history, significance and other related stuffs you could read it by following the link.

I am going to write about a function called “Thiruppavadai utsavam”.

This is a famous function in which some kind of foods and sweets are made on behalf of a sponsor (ubayadharar) and kept before the deity in the sanctum sanctorum (neivaidyam) and then distributed to the devotees. (Viniyogam).
Then all the devotees were made to sit in a row and foods (prasadams) are distributed to them.
But what one undesirable thing I noticed I noticed is though they made more than 10-15 items they could distribute only 3 items to the common public ( bakta kodigal )

And the remaining items they made it to available for sale….!!!!

What I am proud of this function is people from all forms of the society (like advocates, PG teachers, and govt officials) participated in the function and sit in a row to get the prasadam …….of the GOD. Its really an awe-inspiring affair.....!
